Oh yes! More pork hock options

Your prayers have been answered Brisbane! Now there's another top spot to indulge in the tender salty goodness of pork hock.

Sunday at Brat Haus  in Fortitude Valley is BBQ Pork Hock bonanza day with a pork hock or pork belly with salad and chips plus a pint of German tap bier for $20 per person.  It's available from 1pm till late.

Get ready to Relish

Put your festival pants on, June is the start of food festival time with Relish Fraser Coast launching on June 7. Expect cooking demos with celebrity chefs, a 'sweet' ride on an historic steam engine filled with treats and quirky beer and food matching sessions.  The World's Greatest Pub Fest, a moving festival around Maryborough's historical pubs with people dressed in outrageous costumes, also has promise.

Would you like free valet parking with your dinner?

Hilton Brisbane have really super sized their dining offer with Vintaged Valet, a free parking service to help guests overcome Brisbane City's woeful parking costs.

Hilton Executive Chef Jeremy Clark tests the new valet service

Hilton Brisbane General Manager Ronald van Weezel said he believed they were the only restaurant in the city to offer the service free of charge and had taken their direction from hospitality leaders in Europe and the United States.

“Finding affordable parking in the city is very difficult. Tis allows people who drive into the city to enjoy a dining experience and not get hit with a parking bill afterwards. It has been happening throughout Europe and the United States for years. We’re excited about making Vintaged Bar + Grill more accessible,” he said.

Full circle food

Noosa Boathouse is doing their bit for the environment with an innovative recycling program which sees 120kg of their weekly waste recycled by local Amanda Moore and returning to the restaurant in the form of fresh herbs and banana leaves.

Restaurant scraps are used to feed Amanda's worm farms and processed through compost systems and go straight back into the gardens and environment.

“Each kilogram of food waste consumed by worms and microbes creates about 400gr of rich compost," says Noosa Boathouse co-owner Danielle McPharlin.

Combine this with Executive Chef Shane Bailey's  emphasis on locally grown and produced ingredients that are sustainable and ethical, and the restaurant is looking very green, maybe even bright green.

Taste of Australia

Take a look around Australia with Lyndey Milan on 7TWO, Sundays at 1.30pm. This 14 episode show showcases some of the country’s hidden gems. It also pays homage to experiences that are true blue through and through such as wood chopping at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and boot scootin’ at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Look for Rick Stein, Neil Perry, Maggie Beer, Pete Evans and Tetsuya Wakuda amongst the faces that pop up on the show.

It's a Yes to Chef

Cashing in on our fascination with all things food, Chef is a new movie which has fun with a chef who loses his passion for cooking but finds it in food trucks, a cranky restaurant critic, an ex-wife and social media.  The cast includes  Jon Favreau, Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara and Robert Downey Jr.  Expect a delectable, dramatic feast and lots of laughs.

Thanks to STUDIOCANAL I have two double passes to give away in my newsletter on Thursday to a preview screening of CHEF on Saturday April 26, 10:30am at Palace Barracks Cinema. It launches on May 8. Subscribe to my newsletter for a chance to go.
