Restaurant Two, Brisbane CBD

It's stood the test of time, 15 years of delighting Brisbane diners, but Restaurant Two still likes to surprise.

Tucked away on the corner of Edward and Alice Streets, opposite the city Botanical Gardens, this is an elegant restaurant with well spaced tables and attentive, knowledgeable wait staff.

Owner chef David Pugh is highly respected in the local culinary scene and is a strong supporter of both local produce and local talent.  Many a promising young chef has found inspiration and experience in the Restaurant Two kitchen.

Their Spring degustation menu is a great way to work through the tempting choices on offer.

Poached rhubarb and pear crumble with clotted cream and freeze dried raspberries

It starts with house-made sour dough bread with cultured butter and a tiny glass with an intriguing combo that they call peanut butter and toast, but also includes a celery stick and celery jell.

Second course was a crisp roasted chicken wing which was surrounded by deeply green asparagus soup with intriguing touches of lemon and fennel.

The confit of Mooloolaba tuna sandwiches between slices of compressed watermelon and topped with perfect drops of almond and basil pesto was an interesting combination of flavours and textures.

A tower of tempura Pinkenba mud crab surround by towers of cucumber and goats cheese, all lifted by a wonderful citrus orange puree.

Star of the night, the main course can also be found on the Restaurant Two menu and combines Cape Grim eye fillet with potato fondant and corned beef (which is actually tongue).  A rich sauce of jerusalem artichoke and red wine pulls the dish together.  It's always hard to beat meat of this quality.

Dessert is a poached rhubarb and pear crumble with clotted cream and freeze-dried raspberries.
